Floors of the Future
"Rustic" has taken on a whole new face in the last few years. With LEED and BEES based design leading the way, reclaimed lumber is becoming increasingly more common. Incorporating material derived from old wooden structures such as barns, factories, houses, sheds, etc. not only reduces the wood taken from forests but it provides you with rich character and warmth not found in conventional flooring material. It is also a great opportunity to consider working with your existing floor in an effort to 'recreate it'. There are a few examples below of reclaimed wood floors used in a modern context as well as hand scraped and distressed styles created from new wood or existing floors. These are of course just examples. We always want to take the time to design your floor with you, exploring the possibilities together.
If you can conceive it....we can make it. We've got the tools for the job.....

Reclaimed lumber?
If you want wood that is rich in character and exudes feelings of warmth, then this material is for you. How many people have floors made from 100 year old wooden structures? Reclaimed lumber varies greatly in style. From a rough faced, full patina look, to a more refined and simplistic style. All types of reclaimed lumber can be sanded so that it will conform to the look and feel that your after. Reclaimed wood, unless sanded to a point, is typically not finished with conventional polyurethanes. It would require many layers to build up enough finish. Old fashioned techniques must be employed. Linseed oil, tongue oils, waxes, and Monocoat are the preferred finishes. If you appreciate the natural beauty of wood and the character that lies within, then please contact us for a free consultation.
We can create a new floor....or recreate your old one
Maybe some of the reclaimed lumber is not your style. Maybe you like some of the features of the reclaimed material but want to tone it down a little. We can create any number of styles and looks using new material or take your existing floor and give it a facelift. Finding ways to reuse your old floor is a 'green' solution and can be equally as rewarding. This has become very popular in the urban areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul where there are old buildings being converted into lofts. The original floors are sometimes left as is and simply recoated with polyurethanes. In some cases, these old Minneapolis hardwood floors are slightly sanded so they can be stained a different color, yet retaining the time worn features. Whatever your sense of originality and creativity is, we are here to help.
